Thermofluids Engineer (Pressure) job!!

Leonardo Worldwide Corporation

Job Description: Lead Engineer – Phase Change Cooling Systems
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a flexible, let’s say, a bit of a jack of all trades kind of engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team at Leonardo Luton. You’d be working on delivering reliable cooling systems for our aerospace platforms, and your work should be more than just a nine to five affair. This role would suit someone who doesn’t mind putting in a bit of elbow grease on their own now and then to get things sorted quickly.

The role involves working with a range of different project teams across the Luton Leonardo Electronic Warfare Business, and there’s also the option to work from home up to 3 days a week – providing the business needs don’t conflict with that.

What You’ll Do:

  • Developing the design, documentation and testing of electronics cooling systems for military aviation platforms.\
  • Collaborating with multi-discipline teams to come up with solutions and fix problems\
  • Working on test equipment and solutions, and that might involve some travel to our company facilities, to customer sites and to military bases.\
  • Presenting your findings and solutions to customers and the wider team, and communicating with our partners overseas.\
  • Building your expertise in phase change cooling systems, and we’ll also be looking to get you up to speed with pressure systems.

What We’re Looking For:
A bit of experience in industries like Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Heat Pumps, Thermal Management, Pressure Systems or liquid cooling systems would be great. If you’ve also worked in Aerospace, Automotive, Marine, Electronics or Data Centre environments that would be a bonus. Ideally we are looking for someone with a background in using HP and LP refrigerants, chilled water/glycol and oil cooling systems, including cascade systems as well as the ability to work with high and low pressure systems. You should be comfortable with interpreting data and be able to build test equipment.

Other requirements of the role include:\

  • Drawing circuits, writing safety assessments, user manuals and doing some fault finding\
  • Knowledge of environmental, pressure system safety and REACH legislation would be a plus\
  • Team player with strong integrity and a business focused approach to making trade-offs on time, quality and cost\
  • Hands on skills, particularly with small mechanical and fluid devices, and the ability to document your work and control your tools\
  • Good communication skills and expertise in Excel and PowerPoint, as well as an understanding of document and project management software\
  • Full UK driving licence
